New York Film Academy School of Film and Acting, often referred to as NYFA, was founded in 1992 by Jerry Sherlock. Sherlock is a former film, television, and theatre producer. It is a for-profit film school based in New York City, Los Angeles, and Miami.

NYFA offers master, bachelor, and associate degrees. Masters in New York Film Academy

New York Film Academy offers exclusive MFA degree programs. Only the New York Film Academy’s Los Angeles and South Beach, Miami campuses offer MFA degree programs. Qualified students can complete course work in a one-year non-degree program at the New York Film Academy in New York City and request that their credits be accepted for advanced standing in the MFA degree program at the Los Angeles or South Beach, Miami campuses. Applicants must present a creative portfolio (together with supporting materials) that demonstrates their creativity, professional potential, and ability to pursue graduate-level education.

Admission Requirements For International Students

• All applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent. There is no minimum GPA required for the application.
• Prospective international students can apply via Gyanberry Admission Assistance
• Applicants must speak English and express a passion and desire to explore the art and craft of visual storytelling. Applicants have to go through an interview process in English by an Admissions Committee member via phone or in person.
• The applicant needs to mail all documents to the specific academy offices.
• The ESL School at NYFA also offers English language classes to prepare non-English speakers for their program.

First of all, dedicating a year to study Screenwriting has been amazing. I took time to live in a country I love and study something I’m passionated about. Who wouldn’t want to do that?

If it wasn’t for coming here I wouldn’t have met the people I’ve met or have found a new place to call home. But I honestly don’t think the aftermath is the only thing that’s important. You will grow so much as a person. Some moments might be tough but most of them will become the best memories you have.

NYU has a commendable acceptance rate slightly above the 30% mark and requires a minimum entry cutoff encompassing a high school GPA and an SAT/ACT score ranging between 1250 to 1480 and 29 to 33 respectively. More specifically, the SAT range should include Math scores between 630 and 760, reading scores between 620 and 720 and writing scores averaging 630 to 730. Submitting applications early has been shown to boost chances of admission and the application charges stand at $70.

New York Film Academy Scholarships

Merit-based rewards are given to students who have excelled academically, while need-based financial aid is given to those who can successfully demonstrate financial need. Following are some of the scholarships available for international students:

Matthew Modine Masters Scholarship: This scholarship is given to students admitted into the MFA program and recommended by the Enrollment Advisor or the appropriate faculty or staff.

Financial papers such as bank statements are required to qualify for need-based tuition assistance. Despite the fact that only a small percentage of international students receive financial assistance, it is worth availing of a need-based scholarship.

• Merit-Based Tuition Award: The Merit-Based Tuition Award from the New York Film Academy gives financial aid to qualified candidates in the college’s Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts programs. Recipients must have a track record of academic accomplishment, leadership, community involvement, and an interest in the arts.
• Talent Based Tuition Award: The Talent Based Tuition Award is a program that identifies students who have a high level of aptitude for their chosen field of study. The Admissions Department decides all Talent Based Awards based on an applicant’s audition or portfolio throughout the admissions process.
